TDC Classes

JAZZ

2

Classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality. Jazz takes some technique from Classical Ballet. The style of jazz at TDC is similar to the dancing on the latest music videos, the classes are fun and set to the latest music trends. A typical jazz class will involve a warm up that places emphasis on both stretching and isolating different body parts. Once this has been completed, the class moves on to learning separate moves such as turns, pirouettes, jumps and leaps. A short routine is then taught in stages to music (most often popular music i.e. Top 40, Pop or R&B). The class then finishes with a short cool-down and stretch.

What to wear:

  • Tan jazz shoes

LYRICAL

2

Lyrical dance is a style fusion of Ballet and Jazz dance techniques. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals or just instrumental bars. The name lyrical comes from the word "lyrics" because dancers use the lyrics of a song or instrumental music to inspire them to perform certain movements or show expression. The goal of a lyrical dancer is to use gesture, facial expression, and controlled movements in order to execute their movements and emotions fully. Besides emotional connection to music, lyrical dance typically encourages use of articulation, line, weight, movement qualities and floor work.

BALLET

2

Ballet is a classical dance form that is the basis of all other forms of dance. It can be mastered by itself or used as a technical base or supplement to other dance styles. Classes focus on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet, legs and posture. Ballet is an excellent form of dance for the improvement of flexibility, coordination, grace and strength. Exercises are taught with the use of a "barre" (bar) centre and corner work.
